Staff Bios: John "JT" Thompson
John ”JT” Thompson born and raised in the WNC mountains, JT left home in the early 80's to attend NC State University in Raleigh and graduated in 1987 with a degree in Natural Resources Recreation. He went on to work seasonally (summers) for the National Park Service as a Park Ranger, first with the Blue Ridge Parkway, then with Denali National Park in Alaska. This job strengthened his love for the outdoors and outdoor recreation in general. A highlight of the
mid 90's was a trip to Africa and exploring Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe including rafting the Zambezi River and bungee jumping over Victoria Falls.
In 1997, he married his true love Diane Ducharme (whom he met while working at the Dome) in a mountainside ceremony with good friends and family in attendance. Backpacking, hiking, climbing, mountain biking have all been important get-aways for JT and Diane. Lately, playtime has been slowed down a bit with the addition of Emme Rae Thompson, a very active four and a half year-old daughter. He still has some time to pursue his newer found love for motorcycling a bit, if not at least to ride to work often.
In the early 90's he joined Black Dome and has been there ever since, over 15 years now. JT is head of technical camping buying, partners with Brye in coordination of the Dome shipping, receiving and returns, special orders and of course sales.
