The Curwens: Jay, Monica, Chilton, and Gibson
Black Dome's general manager, Jay Curwen, was born in Asheville and spent his high school and college days right here in Western North Carolina. As a former professional triathlete during the 80s and 90s, Jay spent his time at Black Dome working the floor and training with a familiar Black Dome face - Adam Pinkston, who is now a sales representative for The North Face. Jay himself left The Dome in 1998 to work as a sales rep for The North Face. He eventually landed at one of our favored brands, Patagonia, where he stayed until he returned to his roots in June 2006 to become the general manager of both Black Dome locations. Jay's athletic achievements include two Ironman Triathlon World Championship finishes as a professional, as well as a stint on the US World Triathlon/Duathlon team. Jay's background is as the lead navigator for the Litespeed/Inov-8 adventure racing team, which captured the USARA national championship in 2002 and is currently on the Black Dome AR team. His other interests include cycling, paddling, trail running, orienteering and just generally spending time in the woods. Jay's wife, Monica (also a former professional cyclist and current member of Team
Black Dome, will also be a fixture in the Black Dome scene. They have a 5 year-old son named Chilton who has them wrapped around his little finger and as of November 2007, Chili's got a brand new little brother named Gibson. |
