The beautiful Debby Wimpy Thomas first walked into Black Dome’s original Biltmore store on a visit to her college roommate, then girl friend of Whitney Heuermann, in November 1986. From Dahlonega, Ga. Debby attended college at Appalachian State and graduated from University of South Florida in Tampa, with biology and teaching majors. Teaching advanced placement biology in Knoxville, Debby loved the outdoors and even led students on scuba diving trips to Florida. Climbing and camping have both been part of Debby’s life beginning in her days in Boone, however today her favorite outdoor sport is the challenging skill of Telemark Skiing. After moving to Asheville Debby continued her teaching, while she and Trent started their family. Even while teaching, Debby began taking over the office and bookkeeping responsibilities at the Dome. Finally (while still loving teaching) the demands’ of Caitlin, Ella, (soon to come) Porter, Trent and the Dome, made teaching impossible and Debby began full time at the Dome in 1995. Debby’s amazing person is very much the glue of Black Dome. Bookkeeping, staff scheduling, business-managing responsibilities all fall to Debby’s capable hands.
