Staff Bios: Coeli Velky
Born in Canyon, NM in the early 1980's Coeli (Shealee) Velky grew up on the Western Slope of Colorado, learned how to cross-country ski when she was in pre-school, she began caving at age 10, in high school she was captain of the crosscountry team and started downhill skiing in middle school. She and her sisters climbed a number of 14,000 ft peaks, including Pyramid Peak at the ages of 5, 7, and 9. She learned how to body-board in California and also boarded down the Colorado River (canoed the Colorado as well).
Moved to New Jersey her senior year of high school where she taught at
the local YMCA Daycare, took Tae Kwon Do classes, and learned how to
scuba dive. Her boyfriend Patrick had also recently moved back to North
Carolina, where his family is from, to finish school in Computer Aided
Drafting. When she graduated, she joined Patrick in Asheville.
Happy to take advantage of it’s proximity to the TAG (Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia) caves that are their first outdoor love.
She completed massage therapy school at the Center for Massage and
Natural Health in Asheville/Weaverville, graduating in February of
2003. Then continued with certification in Shiatsu and Cupping, and is
learning Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Previous jobs include; construction, reception, landscaping, massage therapy at Belks Salon and Spa, teaching pre-school, vet assistant.
Coeli joined the Dome in June 2004 as a part timer, but has since become part of the full time crew. Since working here she has picked up climbing, and learned how to snowboard further expanding her vast outdoor skills.
She and Patrick have two dogs, Casey and Dolly, both are Australian Cattledog mixes. They are canine lovers and hope to give many furry friends a home in their lifetime.
